Concentric was retained to provide professional engineering services for the design-build of the Inuksugait Plaza Phase IV facility in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Approach & Methodology
Concentric provided the following services:
Conceptual design and selection of structural system
Structural refinement process and dialogue with NCC construction managers
Coordination with Architect and sub-consultants/suppliers as required
Drafting of all required plans and details
Preparation of required material/performance specifications
Issuance of drawings for permit and construction, signed and sealed
Shop drawing review (wood joist and structural steel)
Periodic construction review during the construction phase
Preparation and distribution of written site reports
Review of deficiencies and their rectification
Issuance of general conformance letter
Key Challenges
The client was looking for a design that could potentially reduce high labour costs. Concentric proposed an all steel superstructure and steel stud infill walls as a time based cost savings measure, resulting in a significantly reduced site erection period.
